Founder: Lucy Hine

Thank you for visiting the website for Have A Word - I hope you find the site easy to navigate and understand the services provided. If in doubt - contact us here and ask any questions you may have. I really would love to hear from you.

Around 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem this year yet the shame and silence can be as bad as the mental health problem itself. Your attitude to mental health could change someone’s life. Sometimes the fear of saying the wrong thing or not knowing what to say to someone who is struggling can cause you to hold back and not be there for a person, even though you desperately want to be.

But where do you start? and how can you support someone better during a mental health crisis?

I created Have A Word in 2018 whilst I was working for a large airline, part time - my side hustle quickly became my main focus and in 2020 I was in a position to proudly offer Have A Word services, full time to all. The main objective of Have A Word was and still is, to educate and support people in mental health by offering Training courses from basic awareness to a fully qualified Level 3 certification in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health.

In early 2020 Therapy was proudly added as an additional, in demand service. I actively work as the main Therapist for Have A Word. I believe that Therapy should not have to be expensive. It is with passion that I wanted to create flexible and affordable sessions to normalise Therapy within society and address the stigma associated with mental health. You should not have to wait to speak to a trained professional.  I believe affordable talking therapies should be readily available, alongside the NHS as much as possible.

In early 2021 mental health qualifications were added within Have A Word, as the business grew so did the interest for more learning - Level 1, 2 and 3 First Aid for Mental Health qualifications that are both regulated and accredited.  I have created Training options for those of you wishing to support a team of mental health first aiders in your workplace or for those of you wanting to personally learn more for better understanding of your own mental health.

To all clients past, present and future. I want to take this opportunity to thank you.

Thank you for being part of my life story so far.

Training | Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and potentially stop a crisis from happening.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.

You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms.

You will gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

Lucy gave us confidence, that we have the skills to help people when needed.

I would 100% recommend Lucy as an Instructor to other companies looking to address the stigma of Mental Health in the work place.

Learning takes place across manageable sessions.

Through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions, each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan.

Research and evaluation shows that

taking part in an MHFA course will raise awareness in mental health literacy, reduce stigma around mental ill health, boost knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues and promote early intervention which enables recovery.

Training | Feedback

Lucy is a great trainer - she is empathetic, kind and understands that everyone learns differently.  Not only is she well prepared to give training, she is very willing to bring her own experiences and stories to the group to enhance further learning.

Lucy's training sessions are fun, informative and leave you feeling enthusiastic about the subject.
